EZEQUIEL JIMENEZ | ARTIST INSTRUCTOR | ACTIVIST

Ezequiel Jiménez is a New York based artist and activist, born in the Dominican Republic. He began painting when he was around 12, finding in art a mode of self-expression that was free of the censorship of conventional thought and opinion. He took painting classes with prof. Rosi García at Casa de Arte in Santiago (1989). In 1995, Mr. Jiménez attended the Art Students League of New York. For Jimenez, art and the artist are embedded in everyday life: in the suffering, aspirations and triumphs of humankind. His art provokes, nourishes and stretches the imagination, revealing the landscape of human possibility; His art wrestles with the fundamental conflicts of the human spirit.

During the last fifteen years Mr. Jiménez has shared his career of artist with activism, which he conceives is a modest contribution to encourage the visual arts. Beginning as a community activist has allowed Mr. Jiménez to collaborate with cultural and academic institutions, as well individual persons through promoting local artists by organizing art exhibits in other places including Low East side and uptown Manhattan, Bronx, New Jersey and Rhode Island. Mr. Jiménez' cultural activism is framed with the purpose of contributing to enlarge the quality of life by extensive  collaboration of free cultural activities in the community. He has also been an invited guest lecturer on the arts and to present his own autobiography for academic institutions and organizations.
